What is the Local Travel Network (LTN)? It is a safe network of local street routes and zones to accommodate the growing market of personally owned zero-emission slow-speed vehicles (e-bikes, pedal bikes, neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs), e-scooters). How does the LTN work? The Turtle reminds everyone that they are on slowmoving streets. Following the Turtle will help users navigate to destinations around town and, importantly, to signalized intersection where they can safely cross busy, fast-moving streets. “Right-size your ride” for local trips How will I know if I’m on the LTN?

Look for the Turtle to know you’re on the network. Where will I find the Turtle in El Segundo? The first phase of the LTN will begin with the pilot project that’s scheduled to begin this fall. Look for the deployment of the Turtle in September with a city ribbon cutting ceremony shortly thereafter. Other beach cities will be rolling out the Turtle later in 2024. Is the LTN really a way to encourage local trips using something other than my family car? Yes. If you were to “right-size” your ride with an e-bike, zero-emission golf cart or a regular pedal bike, you could use the LTN to safely get you to and from destinations in El Segundo.

Cost Savings: Zero-emission, micromobility vehicles cost less to operate and maintain for local needs. This is a direct cost savings to you. Convenient and Fun: Smaller vehicles are also easier to park and the perfect option for short trips. And they are fun to use. Good for the Environment: A bonus to switching to zero-emissions, low-speed vehicles is that it helps lower greenhouse gas emissions in the community, while also reducing congestion on the road.
