Ensuring Bicycle Safety with E-Bikes
At Redondo Union High School (RUHS), many students choose to commute to school on bicycles and e-bikes. We're committed to promoting safety not only for our Sea Hawks but also for pedestrians in our community. As a friendly reminder, here are some essential steps to ensure bicycle safety, along with a video that will help keep everyone in Redondo safe while cycling.
1. Stop at Posted Stop Signs and Traffic Signals
- Always come to a complete stop at limit lines before entering intersections (California Vehicle Code 22450(a) CVC).
- Pay special attention to the PCH and Diamond intersection, where this rule is particularly crucial.
2. Adhere to the Basic Speed Law
- Do not drive at a speed that endangers the safety of individuals or property (CVC 22350).
3. Ride With Traffic
- Travel in the same direction as traffic flow.
- If you're on a one-way street and need to go in the opposite direction, walk your bicycle on the sidewalk (CVC 21650).
- When entering and exiting RUHS, always follow the flow of traffic.
4. Wear a Helmet if Under 18 (Recommended for All Ages)
- If you're under the age of 18, it's mandatory to wear an approved helmet while riding (CVC 21212).
- We strongly recommend wearing a helmet for riders of all ages to prioritize safety.
5. Keep One Ear Uncovered
- Bicyclists are not allowed to wear earplugs in both ears or headsets that cover both ears (CVC 27400).
6. Campus Arrival Protocol
- When arriving on campus, please dismount your bicycle and walk it to the designated bike racks.
- There are plenty of unused spaces available for you to securely park your bike.
As we approach various exciting activities, we want to ensure that you can all enjoy them safely. Remember, being smart, staying safe, and taking care of each other's well-being are our top priorities.
Thank you for being responsible e-bike owners, and let's continue making our Hermosa Beach community a safe and enjoyable place for all cyclists.
